Hi Bruce. I was under the impression that your warehouse would be too full to host any longer hence why I don't think we've asked again, but are you suggesting you may be able to host again this year?

If not, Brian do you have any updates on the other venue(s) contacted?

Also, Gerry thanks for the offer of your home once again as a backup.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

ok then all of you stand and find a venue to\\just phone up to call it off now do not bother me

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

Ive been doing as much research as i can, Alot of things are available in The CBD but not so much on the outskirts unless people are familiar with certain places. Ive found a place in Armadale, Parking may be the only issue at 67 Sutherland Rd, Armadale VIC 3143.

Its $45 an hour with a 30% discount for non profit organizations. Alot of these venues charge $180 per day so for 2 days i think we could try and get a better rate instead of the $252 that this place is asking for.

Heres the add, Looks pretty much what were are looking for.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

I can't find a venue myself but the cost, parking and space are big priorities. I typically drag along about 1/2 a cubic metre of stuff. That is excluding tint tubes if anyone wanted them. With that amount of stuff I have probably 4 or 5 trips to my car. My list of "mini" stuff is typically 40 or 50 items including laptop, boards, power supplies, complete controllers, coro and tint tube creations, extension leads etc etc. If the venue isn't privately owned then everything will require packing up and removing on Saturday afternoon.
Any chasing up of a venue is appreciated and my own personal hate of Melbourne and ticket parking doesn't have to be taken into account.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

Regarding a venue, has anyone thought of contacting their local Scout Group?

Their halls are usually fairly large, with facilities including kitchens, toilets, tables, chairs etc. There is usually local parking available. They will usually hire them out at a reasonable rate.

I am Group Leader at the 1st Newborough Scout Group, our hall would be able to fit 50 people, plenty of parking and large outside areas if needed. There is no audio visual equipment available, however it is not hard to setup a projector. However we are 130 km east of Melbourne, so it is a bit far out for most people.

Just an idea, try contacting your local group.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

Tonight in chat Bruce has made me a happy man. He has again offered his office which has plenty of space, parking and is at the right price.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

Well this is great news and thank you so much Bruce for offering your venue again.
I was going a bit bonkers trying to find a suitable venue for us that was cost effective, large enough and had parking or PT access for everyone to get to. They are hard to come by in Melbourne! (especially the cost bit anyway!)

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini

I have been thinking on a LOR (ish) topic. How to make the transition for a purely LOR network/show to one that also includes DMX and potentially E1.31.
I hate public speaking but can talk on most of the topics you've suggested Bruce. There's much better people at talking about Xlights I know as I barely scratched the surface of it last year.
I will probably bring
- LOR AC controller (for those with an interest in dinosaurs)
- a collection of dmx boards
- at least 1 or 2 pixel controllers
- my 2801DC and 2811DC pixel to DC boards
- P10 panels, octoscroller, BeagleBone Black
- Raspberry Pi and wipi
- corflute and tint tube props
- laptop with nearly everything installed on it. (Xlights, LOR, da_dmx, da_e131, etc etc)
- power supplies, meters, tools
- $3 pixel testers (2811 and 2801)
