Re: 2016 Melbourne mini 14th-15th May

I will have to check in with the family first as Sunday is both my wife and sons birthday, but they are both pushing me to up the ante this year on the lights... definitely keen on waterproofing, power management and power injection.

If you can come for one day - am sure you will benefit !

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini 14th-15th May

Wives, children and birthday cake are all welcome.
If necessary we could do a session with synching up happy birthday to some lights.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini 14th-15th May - Call for presentations..

Time for people to put up their hands for doing sessions..??

I'd like to propose that we allocate a block of time for some short sessions on a wide range of topics. This can compliment some longer sessions on more core topics. Short sessions would be an opportunity for a lot of people to talk about somethign they are interested in.

Duration.. No more than 12 minutes. this menas we can have 5 sessions in an hour, and i'm hoping perhaps we can get 10 of these?

I'll kick the boat off by doing a hugely exciting topic.

* Blinky Light Stanards - Whats coming in the immediate future in the wonderful world of Blinky Standards. Additions to the E1.31 standard, and the new E1.33 standard..

Suggestions of what might be topics. ( just as ideas )

- How I built my mega-zinger-thingy... ( insert your favorite thing )
- Keeping power supplys cool, in the hot australian summer

Etc etc.

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini 14th-15th May

I've got a couple of topics that I'm a bit passionate about so I will put myself down for them.

* LOR and DMX. This will cover adding dmx and E1.31 to existing LOR sequences, converting LOR sequences to run in DMX and connecting LOR boards into a DMX (ESTA wired) network

* The effect of wire sizes (also known as "why not to use security cable"). This will have a demo of the difference that wire size makes in a pixel network showing actual voltage drops, pink bits and latch up due to a lack of voltage.

I can do xLights and/or the Falcon Player setup , multisynching etc etc.

I hope someone can do a session on 3D printing.
If not I could give that a shot depending on how well I progress between now (have just ordered one) and then :)
Or we could two sessions - one from someone experienced and I could do the novice (and what mistakes not to repeat) session.

Id love to help in someway but not confident enough to speak, i can bring psus and elements etc if we need some extra. What are we thinking of for food wise? BBQ like last time?

Just realised that the Saturday is my wife's birthday. If I want to live to enjoy Blinky 2016, I think it best that I don't attend the Saturday. Hopefully I'll be ok for Sunday though...

But you can be home for dinner??

Re: 2016 Melbourne mini 14th-15th May

Ok, I have been quiet for the past two years, work has really caught up with me. I did do a display last year, but I think I have done better before. I'm looking to re-invent my display, potentially starting from scratch...

so, I'm interested in
Raspberry Pi, and whatever add-on boards are appropriate
Programming PI
FPP <- from my reading this is the playback s/w? Are there others?
Pixel standards/communication standards
Cabling and the right type to use for data, power, etc

See you there!
