Protocol Bridges

A protocol bridge is a device that converts the data signal from one protocol to another. One of the most common instances of this in computer-controlled Christmas lighting is an E1.31 to DMX512 bridge, where the data is converted from the incoming E1.31 protocol signal into the DMX512 protocol. DMX controllers and lights connected through a Protocol Bridge like this are sequenced as E1.31 devices.

You can find Protocol Bridges as a dedicated product (listed below) or, more commonly, you may find them integrated directly into a pixel controller with their own dmx outputs.

USB to DMX512

USB DMX dongles are commonly used in conjunction with PC software to output a single universe (512 channels) of DMX.
