A protocol bridge is a device that converts the data signal from one protocol to another. One of the most common instances of this in computer-controlled Christmas lighting is an E1.31 to DMX512 bridge, where the data is converted from the incoming E1.31 protocol signal into the DMX512 protocol. DMX controllers and lights connected through a Protocol Bridge like this are sequenced as E1.31 devices.
